Usually the name “Ghost” would summon up images of spectres, ghouls, or maybe the character from Modern Warfare 2. But the new Rolls-Royce Ghost is anything but shady. Rolls-Royce unveiled the Ghost in 2009 and began production the next year. Ringing up at a cool $225,000, it definitely has its audience picked out. But hey, the rest of us can look, can’t we? So let’s look into what makes the Ghost so cool.
The Stats
The Ghost weighs 5,445 pounds, and is just under 5 feet tall, with a length of around 17 feet.
The Ghost is made of steel, unlike the last Rolls-Royce, the Phantom, which featured a body made of aluminum.
The Ghost goes from 0 to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds, which is about how long it takes to reach in your pocket and pull out your phone. Top speed is 155 mph. It’s a fast car.
The Ghost houses a 6.6 liter V-12 (yes, a V-12) which churns out 563 horsepower.
The Ghost comes in dark shades of…well, ghostly colors.
The Reviews
Critics have been quick to point out that the Rolls-Royce Ghost bears a striking resemblance to the BMW 7-series. Granted, since BMW looks after Rolls-Royce, it shouldn’t be a huge surprise that the cars share 20% of the same parts. For instance, the engines are identical. Despite this, the Ghost is a new step for Rolls. For one thing, this is more of an “everyday” car (as opposed to the $380,000 Phantom). You know, for grocery shopping. In general, the Ghost has been favorably received. One of the coolest features of the ghost is the umbrellas hidden in the doors. No kidding. There’s even heaters inside so that you can put them back, sopping wet, to be dried. Maybe not worth half a million dollars, but nonetheless rad.
While we may not be picking up one anytime son, the Ghost is still a quality car and a nice progression for Rolls-Royce.
