Less vacancies are being applied for by more people than ever before here in the states. Unfortunately, our economy isn’t booming like Brazil’s and there are vagas posted every where you turn. To make this matter worse, many of you are trying to secure employment without a bachelor’s or a master’s under your belt. If you’ve been looking for well paid positions but don’t have a degree to get you noticed, you’re probably pretty frustrated. With so many applicants and so few jobs in this current economy, most of the people with degrees aren’t getting called back either. This is why the traditional 9 to 5 may not be the best place to take you particular skill set. But don’t despair. Just because you don’t have a degree, doesn’t mean you have nothing to bring to the table. Some of the best jobs out there require no degree at all. Here are a few of them:
Though it might sound like the plight of some lowly village dweller, fishing is still a huge industry. If you want to make the big bucks, you need to work in Alaska. You might have to leave behind friends or family for a few months, but in the course of 8 weeks some crab catchers make around $50,000 during their season’s short duration.
Though most people don’t like the idea of working without a base pay, commissioned sales jobs are still some of the best paying occupations around. This is because you can make as much money as you’re willing to work for. To be a good sales person you need people skills, perseverance, and tough skin, but what you don’t need is a degree. Whether it be selling cars, insurance, or vacuums, sales people around the world are sitting very comfortably on $100k a year.
Depending on what city you live in, a garbage/sanitation worker can make pretty decent money. In New York, this position rakes in about 80 grand. Not bad for the stink. You can also lay claim to all the treasures people are throwing out before they make their way into the landfill. Be advised, the further south you go, the worse this job pays.
People have even started dog walking companies that charge up to $50 an hour to take someone’s pooch out on a stroll. This is comparable pay to a mid-level manager’s salary.
Perhaps the best job you can get, even with a degree, is having the freedom to start your own business. Entrepreneurial opportunities are everywhere and it doesn’t require a degree to spot them or gain from them. Bill Gates was a college dropout. What can a professor hope to teach him about making money?
To truly find a great job without a degree, you have to open your mind, broaden your horizons, and put away all preconceived notions. Be a little creative, adventurous, and determined. Opportunities will start to come.
